About Danburite
Danburite is a calcium boron silicate mineral with the formula CaB2(SiO4)2. Crystals of Danburite are fairy rare, with the majority of large gem-quality specimens coming from only a handful of locations around the world. Danburite was first discovered in 1839 by Charles Upham Shepard and is named after Danbury, Connecticut. Danburite forms orthorhombic, prismatic crystals that have similar symmetry to Topaz. Specimens often have a V or wedge shape at one or both ends.
Danburite is both subtle and dazzling; well-formed crystals of Danburite gleam and sparkle with soft colors that give it an angelic, ethereal essence. While it can have a gentle appearance, it is a tough mineral. Danburite ranks at about 7.5 on the Mohs hardness scale, higher than Quartz.
Danburite beauty and strength has sparked recent interest in the jewelry industry, but historically Danburite has been a crystal for collectors or those seeking a high vibrational healing stone.

Danburite Value
Typically, Danburite is a stone of interest to mineral collectors and connoisseurs of gems. Danburite is lesser known in the jewelry world but has recently gained popularity as a gemstone. It was discovered during an era when vibrant gemstones were in-style, so the delicate color of this stone was long overlooked in favor of more saturated gems for many decades. However, the exceptional durability and unique aura of Danburite has accelerated its popularity. Still, Danburite is considered a relatively uncommon stone and gems can be quite expensive. Large crystals are also unusual and considered collector’s items. Pricing of course, varies with supply and demand, and by the quality of the Danburite itself. Right now, specimens from Mexico would probably be considered the most desirable, and of course unusual or exceptional gems.
